Stop Human Trafficking

In 2004 we created a corporate, public stand in support of ending the human trafficking of women and children who are sexually exploited and pressured into forced labor.

The commitment to counteract this phenomenon, also referred to as “modern slavery,” materializes in particular by raising awareness among the population by distributing relevant materials. Independently or in collaboration with other organizations, we advocate for policies and programs to prevent human trafficking.

Against Trafficking in Women and Children (2004)

The Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary takes a stand to ensure respect for human rights by opposing the trafficking of women and children who are sexually exploited and pushed into forced labor.

We will educate ourselves and educate others about the scale, causes and consequences of this abuse, not only where we are sent on mission, but also around the world.

Through our NGO affiliations, the SNJM Justice and Peace Network and our efforts to promote justice, our Congregation, alone and in collaboration with other religious congregations, advocacy groups and non-governmental organizations, will advocate policies and programs that deal with the prevention of such trafficking where we will provide other choices to the women and children that this traffic endangers.

Process of Reflection and Prayer

Established by Pope Francis in 2015, the International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking in Human Beings takes place on February 8, St. Bakhita Day.

The SNJM Anti-Trafficking Committee has prepared a reflection and a prayer for this occasion.

Let us also remember the existence of the World Day Against Human Trafficking highlighted annually on 30 July.
