Since adopting their corporate stand on water, the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM) continue to educate themselves on the whole issue of access to drinking water and the preservation of this natural resource, essential to life.
The SNJM Water-Ecology Committee produces several newsletters a year to report facts, publicize initiatives in various countries around the world, and encourage religious and their partners to take action for better water use.
Actions implemented individually or collectively include the use of reusable water bottles, the elimination of plastic water bottles and the rationalization of drinking water inside and outside the home (e.g. showers, rainwater for plants, etc.).
The SNJMs apply their teaching to their daily lives, sharing their knowledge to make as many people as possible aware of the injustices and disastrous consequences of water shortage or lack of access to quality drinking water. The distribution of reusable water bottles and bookmarks is part of this educational approach.
