In Quebec, the rattle has been used in convent chapels and sometimes in playgrounds. It’s also a musical instrument, although it doesn’t have the same reputation as some others. Nevertheless, it can be heard right from the start of Toy Symphony and in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, for example. The Musée de la Musique in Paris has a whole collection of this particular instrument.
