Global Recycling Day

Since March 18, 2018, Global Recycling Day has been celebrated all over the world. This initiative of the International Recycling Office (BIR) aims to raise awareness of the importance of recycling in the sustainable development process. It also aims to raise awareness among manufacturers to design products that are suitable for recycling.

Because the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM have adopted the tenets of the 5 Rs, it is important for us to underline this day and to encourage all members and network associates to act in consequence. In a context where recycling leads to substantial savings in energy, every action counts.

Recycling is an industry that dates back to the history of copper smelting, around 9,000 BC, according to BIR data. At the time, smelting and reforming a broken tool was simpler, as was processing the ore needed to create and / or repair it.
