World Press Freedom Day

The theme of this world day in 2021 is “Information as a public good”. With this theme, UNESCO highlights the important role of information in our societies. In a context where traditional media are experiencing the impacts of a digital communications system and where threats against journalists and the free press are multiplying in many countries, this theme is of great relevance and encourages all citizens of the world to reflect on this issue. This questioning must also extend to the mechanisms that can ensure the transparency of Internet companies.

In addition to these aspects, the day also leads information workers to question their professional ethics and the ways in which information is produced. It also serves “to remind governments of the need to respect their commitment to press freedom. “

A briefing note to learn more about the 2021 theme and to start thinking about it is available.
