World Book and Copyright Day

The purpose of this day is to promote the pleasures of reading and books, to highlight the significance of books, to encourage greater access to books and to defend copyright.

This year’s theme is Reading… to never feel alone

The power of books is more real than ever in a world marked by pandemic, school closures and confinement. This day is an invitation to take the time to read alone or with children, to open up to others and to travel through the magic of your imagination.

In the absence of face-to-face activities, this year’s campaign is a call to all: students, teachers, librarians, readers from all over the world, to show their love of reading and share their favorite reading.

This day was chosen by the General Conference of UNESCO in 1995 to commemorate the death of the writers William Shakespeare, Miguel Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.
