International Museum Day is being held in 2021 under the theme “The Future of Museums: Recovering and Reinventing”.
In doing so, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) extends an invitation to museums, professionals and their communities “to develop, imagine and share new practices of value (co)creation, new business models for cultural institutions and innovative solutions for the social, economic and environmental challenges of the present. “
Despite the pandemic and the closure of many museums, several activities are organized, virtually or in person. The site of the day provides several information including a relevant reading list and an interactive map of activities.
This International Museum Day has been organized by ICOM since 1977. Some 55,000 museums usually organize celebrations in 150 countries.
