March 19 has been set as the date for the next global climate strike under the theme “No more empty promises”.
Despite the constraints imposed by the pandemic, climate activists intend “to demand immediate, concrete, and ambitious action from world leaders in response to the ongoing climate crisis.”
They would like to remind us of the urgency to act to deal with the multitude of weather and climate-related disasters: forest fires, floods, drought, storms, etc. These are phenomena that are being repeated more and more often and that affected the populations of many countries on all continents last year.
“When your house is on fire, you don’t wait for 10, 20 years before you call the fire department; you act as soon and as much as you possibly can,” said Greta Thunberg from Sweden.
Recalling the signing of the Paris Accord five years ago and the alarming report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), organizers say the time for empty promises is over. This is the theme of this day organized by the #FridaysFor Future movement, which began its action in August 2018.
